Heinously Unreliable Used Car Battle of the Week: Early 2000s Hot Hatches Heinously Unreliable Used Car Battle of the Week: Early 2000s Hot Hatches

Welcome to another installment of HUUCBOTW, which I'm pretty sure translates to something highly insulting in Finnish based on several strongly-worded emails I have received. This week, we turn our attention to a perennial automotive favorite: the hot hatchback. And as a bonus, we get to revisit the early 2000s, which we all remember was a great time for everyone!

Imagine being really excited about something, but not being able to tell anyone, like winning the Powerball but keeping your mouth shut long enough for the rest of the people in your office lottery pool to realize you aren't coming back. Ok, maybe not that bad, but pretty damn close. I had a confession to make: I fell in love with a Korean car, and I couldn’t tell a seoul.

6 Reasons You Need to Buy a Vintage JDM Car Right Now 6 Reasons You Need to Buy a Vintage JDM Car Right Now

Recently, I’ve really been into classic Japanese cars. As a car guy, this sometimes leads to awkward conversations.

Random Car Guy: “So, you like cars? What’s your dream car? Mustang? Camaro?”

Me: “Well, not really. Um. I mean, I’m kinda into cars that most people don’t like.  Like, most people think they are ugly. And slow. And poorly built. But they aren’t!  I mean, uh, did you see the game last weekend?”

This is a tough conversation for anybody. Fortunately, I’m here to give any fellow classic JDM-lover like me the ammunition they need to stand up against even the toughest critics.

How More is Sometimes Less How More is Sometimes Less

Cadillac, historically, have made cars that turn heads and soothe brows. They were the working man's motivator; a brand that knew luxury meant a spacious and well-appointed cabin, with avant-garde styling complementing the vast exterior space. However, as of the early 2000s, the company was struggling with keeping their cars relevant. I took a chance on buying a 2002 Seville STS. Did I make a huge mistake?

I have a theory that Germans are magic. Let me explain - the usual path to a fast automobile is a big engine in a small car. Germans manage to get their biggest car, put their biggest engine in, and it out-performs anything in the "traditional" performance category. This sort of thinking amounts to a top of the line S-Class that accelerates to 60 mph faster than a Porsche 911 and has a delimited top speed that rivals a Lamborghini Gallardo. And I just bought one.

The Modern Driver: Deer In Pop Up Headlights The Modern Driver: Deer In Pop Up Headlights

Deer get hit all the time but, deer are stupid. Cats and dogs too, get run down in residential areas often enough but, and let’s be honest here, they’re idiots and jerks anyway and if it weren’t for our anthropomorphic tendencies we probably wouldn’t care. It sucks, but they’re just dumb animals. Look, I’d be heart broken if you ran one of mine down, but it’s not going to upset the global equilibrium or anything. Housecats aren’t an endangered species. Unfortunately, neither are stupid people.

Cyclists Are Literally the Worst Cyclists Are Literally the Worst

I realize that the title is a bit inflammatory, but after having a very unpleasant altercation with a cyclist while walking to class this morning, I have to vent my frustrations. Let me ease some of the tension by qualifying this statement: many cyclists are perfectly fine individuals with whom I have no quarrel, but just as many are aggressive, self-righteous jackasses who deserve to have their riding privileges revoked.
  • Here's The Real Reason Why /DRIVE Started Charging For Content

If you're a car enthusiast, chances are, you've seen a /DRIVE video, but you probably also saw that they were one of the first major channels that have moved to a premium model of content, meaning that each month, the subscriber gets charged to watch the high-quality videos the channel puts out. Admittedly, people were pissed and many theories came about as to why a channel with that many loyal followers would do such a drastic move. Mike Spinelli, one of /DRIVE's main personalities, puts all the rumors to rest in a quite reasonable way.

Regular Car Reviews may be the funniest car channel on the internet today, bar none. It combines quick-witted, super-specific references with toilet humor and insightful commentary to make something that you can't help but binge watch. In this edition of Offtrack, I sat down with Mr. Regular as he explained to me why Delaware isn't such a great state and why people get weird when they meet celebrities. This may get odd.

  • Here's The One DIY Guide Every BMW Owner Must See

BMWs are great cars for the most part. Their performance per pound make them a serious competitor in the market for people that want a thrilling driving experience. But they do have an achilles heel: The cooling system. As the system is sealed, meaning that there's nowhere to bleed off air when in normal running condition, bleeding the system properly is one of the most important things you can do to keep your car running for years to come. Here's how to do it, the right way.
